Sendaidagashi is a small blog about Sendai and the wider Tohoku region — the food, the crafts, the festivals and the ordinary streets that visitors walk past without knowing what happened on them. We write the way a neighbour would explain a place: what it is, when it is at its best, how long it takes to get there, and whether it is worth the detour in the season you happen to be travelling.
The name comes from Sendai Dagashi, the plain handmade sweets the city has been making since the Date era — starch syrup, brown sugar, roasted grains and sesame, shaped by hand and sold by the piece. They are cheap, unglamorous and completely local, which is more or less the spirit we try to keep in the writing here.

Seasonal guides: plum and cherry blossom spots across Miyagi, strawberry greenhouses that open from January to June, summer festivals, and the quiet snow months when the city is at its most photogenic. Walking routes through the old districts of Sendai, with the shops and temples worth stopping at along the way. Notes from study visits and networking meetings between tourist information centres across Tohoku, which is how we learn what smaller towns in Akita, Fukushima and Iwate want travellers to see.
